Department Faculty The Department of Surgical Education at Orlando Regional Medical Center is staffed by seven full-time physicians.

Michael Cheatham, MD, FACS, FCCM

Dr. Cheatham earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed both his general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He is board certified in general surgery, with added qualifications in surgical critical care. Dr. Cheatham's research interests include advanced hemodynamic monitoring, shock resuscitation, abdominal compartment syndrome, disaster preparedness, and third-world medicine. He is active in a number of national and international surgical, trauma, and critical care societies. He is the past president of the World Society for Abdominal Compartment Syndrome.

William Havron III, MD, FACS

Dr. Havron earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care.Dr. Havron’s interests include elective and emergency general surgery, antireflux surgery, surgical critical care and trauma surgery. He oversees monthly “Mock Oral Prep” conference for the PGY 2-3 residents.

Joseph A. Ibrahim, MD, FACS

Dr. Ibrahim earned his medical degree from East Tennessee State University. He completed his general surgery residency at East Tennessee State University and his surgical critical care fellowship at ORMC. He is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care.Dr. Ibrahim oversees Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center and is responsible for trauma care provided throughout the Orlando Health system. He also has developed the department’s ultrasound conference and monthly “Mock Oral Prep” conference for the PGY 4-5 residents.

Matt W. Lube, MD, FACS

Dr. Lube earned his medical degree from University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed both his general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at ORMC. He is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care. He is the past president of the Florida Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Lube practices general and acute care surgery. He serves as the clerkship director for General Surgery for the University of Central Florida, College of Medicine.

Chadwick P. Smith, MD, FACS
Program Director, Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He completed his general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at ORMC. He is board certified in general surgery, surgical critical care and neuro critical care.Dr. Smith oversees the department’s weekly Basic Science curriculum including monthly quizzes. He also manages all of the Surgical Critical Care fellowship’s conferences. His surgical interests include general surgery, emergency surgery, and the care of the acutely ill and injured.

Howard G. Smith, MD, FACS, FCCM
Director, Burn Services

Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Indiana University and his surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Connecticut/Hartford Hospital. He is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care.Dr. Smith’s interests burns, nutrition, critical care and trauma.

Indermeet Bhullar, MD, FACS
Program Director, Acute Care Surgery Fellowship

Dr. Bhullar earned his medical degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at University of California San Diego and completed his surgical critical care fellowship at ORMC. He is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care.Dr. Bhullar oversees the department’s surgical research.
