  • Objective

    To evaluate the hypothesis that obese patients undergoing surgical treatment for intertrochanteric fracture of the femur have more perioperative complications in comparison to patients with the normal body weights and in addition to document the rate of fracture healing.

    Patients (≥18 years of age) with fractures of the femur
    Treated surgically between January 1, 2004- August 31, 2014

    •  820.0 (transcervical fracture, closed),
    •  820.2 (peritrochanteric fracture of femur closed),
    •  820.8 (closed fracture of unspecified part of neck of femur),
    •  821.0 (fracture of unspecified part of the femur or femoral shaft, closed),
    •  821.2 (closed fracture of the distal femor, femoral condyle, lower epiphysis or supracondylar femur)
