Dr. P. Phillips Hospital offers state-of-the-art nuclear medicine technology. Images are obtained using a Nuclear Medicine Gamma Camera, which creates an image of the distribution of a radioactive pharmaceutical agent in the organ of interest.
The gamma camera is a dual-headed, variable angle diagnostic instrument. Utilization involves injecting the patient with a pharmaceutical agent labeled with a small amount of radioactive material. The pharmaceutical is selected on the basis of the specific organ or tissue to be evaluated (such as heart, lungs, bone, kidney, liver, gall bladder function, thyroid and brain). The radioisotopes used are very safe and procedures can be done easily as an outpatient. Nuclear stress/treadmill imaging procedures are available in our state-of-the-art stress lab.
Nuclear Medicine is located on the second floor of Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. Services are available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
