DP Phillips Hospital

Dr. P. Phillips Hospital offers state-of-the-art nuclear medicine technology. Images are obtained using a Nuclear Medicine Gamma Camera, which creates an image of the distribution of a radioactive pharmaceutical agent in the organ of interest.

Gamma Camera

The gamma camera is a dual-headed, variable-angle diagnostic instrument. Utilization involves injecting the patient with a pharmaceutical agent labeled with a small amount of radioactive material. The pharmaceutical is selected on the basis of the specific organ or tissue to be evaluated (such as heart, lungs, bone, kidney, liver, gall bladder function, thyroid and brain). The radioisotopes used are very safe and procedures can be done easily as an outpatient. Nuclear stress/treadmill imaging procedures are available in our state-of-the-art stress lab.

Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT)

The system detects single photons (energy emitted by the radioactive substance in the body) by rotating detectors around the body and recording events at each detector location. A computer is used to create a three-dimensional image (or tomogram) of the radioactivity detected. The images produced assist in providing the highest quality of diagnosis to the ordering physician. These images ensure the highest quality of nuclear medicine procedures in Central Florida.

We are located in Dr. P. Phillips Hospital and are open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm.
