Our Healing Environment

M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, housed in the Charles Lewis Pavilion, rises 10 stories above the Orlando skyline –- a place where patients may seek the finest cancer treatments, and refuge as well. Much attention has been paid to making the cancer center warm and comfortable; fulfilling our mission to use every available resource to defeat cancer.

Guest Services

Guest Services are located in the lobby of the Charles Lewis Pavilion.

Radiation Oncology

The first floor of the Charles Lewis Pavilion houses M. D. Anderson - Orlando's leading-edge radiation center. M. D. Anderson – Orlando is the only site in the world to offer the advanced technology of Novalis Shaped Beam Surgery, Helical Tomotherapy and linear accelerators in one location.

And while M. D. Anderson - Orlando is one of the foremost leaders in radiation treatments, the Charles Lewis Pavilion combines leading-edge technology with a soothing environment. Natural light spreads into the radiation center through windows and skylights, transforming a typically dark and forbidding area into a vibrant place of life and hope, complete with live palm trees.

MCRG Patient & Family Learning Center

On the second floor is the MCRG Patient and Family Learning Center complete with computers, video equipment and printed material on all types of cancer. Our librarian is available to help in the understanding of the disease.

Perry Chapel

The Cynthia C. and William E. Perry Chapel is located on the second floor of the Charles Lewis Pavilion. Our non-denominational chapel is open to anyone seeking solace through prayers and meditation.

Telemedicine

M. D. Anderson – Orlando uses sophisticated telemedicine technology. Each week, physicians at M. D. Anderson – Orlando link up via fiber optic cable television with internationally renowned cancer specialists at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to consult one another on the most complex cases. This technology allows immediate transmission of X-rays, scans and pathology information between the two centers, enabling the multidisciplinary team of specialists in two states to simultaneously analyze and discuss all aspects of a patient's care.

Cafe Oasis

On the fourth floor of the Charles Lewis Plaza there is our Cafe Oasis, where patients and their families can enjoy a meal or a snack.

Ambulatory Treatment Center

The Ambulatory Treatment Center (ATC) is located on the fifth floor for treatments including chemotherapy, transfusions and injections. It features a pod concept and is designed for patients who desire privacy as well as for those who want more of a community setting.

Day Rooms

A cozy visiting area is available in the Ambulatory Treatment Center and on all inpatient floors. Here, family members can bring in patients' pets for a reunion.

Patient Rooms

Private rooms for inpatient care focus on the individual interests of our patients and their family members. Each room is equipped with a Murphy bed for overnight guests, armoire, refrigerator, entertainment center including a TV, cable and DVD capabilities along with stereo headphones. Patients and guests can even plug in their laptop computers or listen to CDs and audio books.

Role of Philanthropy

None of these technologies or the new building itself would have been possible without the commitment of generous donors, such as the Lewis family. Joe Lewis and his daughter, Vivienne Silverton, made a generous contribution to the construction of the center and played a significant leadership role in the capital campaign.

Philanthropy contributed a substantial part of the $62 million needed to build M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando's beautiful facility.
