On April 20, Orlando Health Level One Trauma Team and Orange County Office of the EMS Medical Director launched bleeding control training to help save lives following man-made or natural mass casualty events. The two entities joined to announce their response to a national call to provide special training to first responders and civilian bystanders to help save lives through controlling bleeding in injured persons.
Attendees took part in a simulation learning demonstration of how a bleeding control kit can be used to stop bleeding after an injury. Bleeding control kits, or B-Con Kits as they are referred to, include: gloves, tourniquet (s), gauze coated with special medication to help with clotting, pressure bandage/compression application.
Classes will be held once a month through December, and are open to team members and the community.
