Pediatric Orthopedists Join Orlando Health and Medical Education Faculty
Six pediatric orthopedists have joined the Orlando Health Pediatric Orthopedic Medical Education Faculty Practice. Charles Price, MD, Jonathan Phillips, MD, Raymond Knapp, MD, Jose Herrera-Soto, MD, Mark Birnbaum, MD, and Jay Albright, MD relocated to the downtown campus. They are providing services in newly renovated offices on the third floor at 89 West Copeland Street. All six physicians are faculty members of the Orlando Health orthopedic residency and pediatric orthopedic fellowship programs. They also have academic appointments at the Florida State University College of Medicine. After receiving their medical degree, each member of the group completed five years of orthopedic residency program plus post residency fellowship training in pediatric orthopedics.
These pediatric orthopedists are committed to the highest quality of surgical care in every case. The entire group meets to review every case to be performed the following week and convenes again after surgery to discuss cases and teach the residents and fellows treatment decisions and surgical decision making.
These six pediatric orthopedists have a combined 78 years of experience. According to Jay Falk, MD, Chief Academic Officer, "This team brings to our community a level of sophistication in pediatric orthopedic care, coupled with teaching and research activities that rivals the work done at the most prestigious medical centers in the country."

Dr. Phillips trained as a general surgeon in Great Britain prior to entering orthopedic training in the United States. His broad knowledge and experience as a British surgeon brings a perspective to the practice that is novel and innovative. His special interests include neck problems in children, trauma, neuromuscular disorders, and spinal deformity. Additionally, Dr. Phillips has developed and patented a unique fixation device for treating femur fractures in children. These fractures have problems that adults don't have because of the growth plates and the special circulation to growing bones. This special device addresses these problems and is being used throughout the U.S. and Europe. |
