ACUPRESSURE FOR SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT

Use your fingers and hands to enable yourself to cope with the demands of cancer treatment and modern life. You will be taught how to apply pressure to certain points on the skin which will stimulate healing energy throughout the body. This intervention can help relieve symptoms such as pain, fatigue, nausea, constipation and anxiety. Acupressure is a simple tool with no side effect. Yoga is a wonderful way to increase energy levels and release tension/stress while stretching and strengthening muscles. Scientific studies show that yoga can be a powerful healing tool. These classes are designed to awaken the strength of the body and unlock the healing power of the mind and heart. Facilitator Daniela Ellis is a certified master yoga instructor with more than 16 years experience studying and teaching yoga. With her studies in anatomy and physiology, and a strong awareness of health movement, Daniela personalizes classes for her students' needs. HARRIETT'S - A PLACE BREAST CANCER PATIENTS CALL THEIR OWN

On April 10, 2006, Women Playing For T.I.M.E. (WPFT) opened Harriett's, an on-site gift shop inside the new Breast Care Center at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Named after local philanthropist Harriett Lake, who pledged $500,000 over five years to build and maintain this service, it is designed to look like a retail store. Inside, patients will find scarves, hats, post-mastectomy camisoles, self-help books and other items that carry no price tag. We recently modified Harriett's and added new inventory including breast cancer Christmas ornaments. Each woman newly diagnosed with cancer and treated at M. D. Anderson - Orlando will receive a coupon to choose a complimentary item of her choice. Additional items are available for a donation. Harriett's is run entirely by WPFT. WALKING THE LABYRINTH

The labyrinth is an ancient symbol, a metaphor for our life that has been used throughout history to address the basic questions of life. It is a winding purposeful path that leads to a center and often yields peace. Comfortable shoes and sunglasses are helpful. The session begins inside the classroom before a guided walk on the outdoor labyrinth. Facilitator Jeanne Miller-Clark, manager of Mind/Body/Spirit, board certified chaplain and trained labyrinth facilitator, teaches this class on the history, meaning, research and power of this ancient healing tool. (The labyrinth is a replica of a sacred walk designed in the Middle Ages (1220) for the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France.)
