A number of disorders can affect the adrenal glands, including tumors, which can be either benign or malignant. Most adrenal gland tumors are benign, do not cause symptoms and may not require treatment. Malignant adrenal gland cancers are uncommon, but can be treated.
We may use minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery to remove smaller benign tumors. During this procedure, we will make several small incisions in either your abdomen or back, depending on the tumor’s location. This method reduces pain, scarring and recovery time. For larger malignant tumors, we may perform open surgery, which requires a longer recovery period.
