We may recommend surgery to repair tissues or bones in your foot if your bunions are causing persistent pain and inflammation that impairs your daily activities, or if your big toe is deformed.
Our orthopedic surgeons may repair tendons or ligaments that are causing your big toe to “drift” toward a neighboring toe. If you have a severe case of bunions, we may remove the surfaces of damaged joints and insert supporting devices, including screws or plates. In other cases, we may cut and realign the joint of your big toe or remove the joint, creating a flexible “scar” joint.
