Cryoablation is a minimally invasive surgery that freezes and disables the heart cells that cause your atrial fibrillation or other irregular heart rhythm. Our cardiologists may recommend the procedure if medication doesn’t work, if you experience side effects from your medicine or if you have a form of arrhythmia that increases the likelihood of a heart attack.
We will insert a catheter, or narrow tube, into a vein that leads to your heart. Using advanced imaging technology, we will guide the catheter to the tissue that is causing your irregular heartbeat and release cold energy. Once we destroy the abnormal cells, the electrical signals that are essential to your heartbeat will be able to travel over normal pathways and function properly.
