Even with proper medication and diet, as many as 70 percent of people with Crohn's disease will require surgery to control the condition. While surgery does not cure Crohn's disease, it can conserve portions of your GI tract and return you to the best possible quality of life.

Overview

When medications no longer can control your symptoms, or if you develop a fistula, fissure or intestinal obstruction, our surgeons may remove the diseased segment of your bowel. We also may close fistulas, drain abscesses and widen areas of your digestive tract that have become too narrow. In most cases, you will continue to take medication following surgery to control the disease.
