Gluteal strains can include micro-tearing, partial tears or, in rare cases, a complete rupture of buttock muscle fibers. The injury may occur if buttocks muscles are stretched or pulled during sudden bursts of speed in sports.
We will exam you and may recommend X-ray, MRI, CT scan or ultrasound testing to determine the severity of your injury. Depending on your injury, we may recommend physiotherapy to ease your pain and begin the healing process. You also may need to take a break from your sport until you are healed. Severe muscle tears could require surgery.
