Treatment will depend on which of the five metatarsal bones in the foot is broken and the location of the break. Our goal will be to relieve your pain, to heal the break and to restore function and mobility in your foot.

A March stress fracture can become a full break if it is left untreated. Our first recommendation may be to immobilize your foot for six to 12 weeks using hard-soled shoes or a below-the-knee plaster cast. Our physical and integrative medicine therapists may use exercises, massage and acupuncture to strengthen and stretch the muscles in your foot.
