Turf toe can occur in any sport or activity that involves fixing the front of the foot on the ground and elevating your heel. The injury often afflicts American football players on artificial turf when the main joint of the big toe gets hyperextended and sprained.
Our orthopedic and sports medicine doctors will prepare a personalized treatment, pain management and rehabilitation plan aimed at minimizing your pain and restoring your mobility. We may apply ice to your toe and wrap it with a compression bandage. If necessary, we may prescribe pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs. Severe sprains may require a boot. Physical therapy may help strengthen your toe.
