Urogynecology


Urogynecology is a specialty of medicine that involves the diagnosis and treatment of female pelvic floor disorders, urinary and anal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and fistulae. To manage these disorders, Winnie Palmer Hospital offers various diagnostic tests and treatment methods, including specialized physical therapy, prescription medication and surgical intervention. By offering a wide spectrum of gynecologic services, the Women’s Center Specialty Practice is committed to the unique healthcare needs of women through all stages of life. The Women's Center Specialty Practice offers treatment for the following:

Pelvic Floor Disorders

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse (pelvic support problems)
  • Cystocele (bulging of the bladder into the vagina)
  • Rectocele (bulging of the rectum into the vagina)
  • Enterocele (bulging of small intestines into a space between the vagina and rectum)
  • Uterine Prolapse (drop/descent of the uterus into the vagina)
  • Vaginal Vault Prolapse (drop/descent of the top of the vagina after hysterectomy)

 

Urinary Incontinence (loss of bladder control)

  • Stress Urinary Incontinence (loss of urine with coughing, laughing, sneezing, lifting or other activities)
  • Urge Urinary Incontinence (loss of urine after a strong urge to urinate)
  • Overactive Bladder (feeling a strong urge to urinate, frequent urination and even loss of urine with an urge)
  • Fecal Incontinence (loss of bowel control)
  • Defacatory Dysfunction, including constipation
  • Voiding Dysfunction (problems with emptying bladder)
  • Urethral Diverticulae (abnormal outpouchings of urethra)
  • Fistulae (abnormal connections between the vagina and bladder, urethra or rectum)
