Susan joined Orlando Health as the chief quality officer of Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in January 2019. Susan is a skilled and experienced clinical leader who has served as Director of the Orlando Health Improvement System since 2013. During that time, she created and implemented a sustainable infrastructure for strategy deployment corporately and at all system hospitals based on the Shingo Guiding Principles. Most recently, this has led to system-wide reduction in emergency department patient arrival to departure of 36% from 2017 to 2018. She also led an initiative that reduced the gap to benchmark length of stay by 12% for the system.
Susan joined Orlando Health as a Neuroscience clinical nurse specialist in 2003. She served in that role until 2012 and was instrumental in the development of the stroke team and in obtaining Primary Stroke Designation at three hospital campuses. From 2012 to 2013, Susan served as Director of Patient Safety and Transformation working closely with clinical and medical staff leaders to drive change in policies and medical staff by-laws to positively impact patient safety. Susan earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Central Florida. She will assume her new role on January 1, 2019. Please join me in congratulating Susan and welcoming her to the DPH.
