Back-to-school season can add a lot of tasks to a busy parent’s to-do list, like buying school supplies, shopping for new clothes and wrapping up summer activities. Don’t let your child’s physical slip your mind. Although some schools and camps in Central Florida require an annual exam, particularly if your child is a student athlete, all children should get a well child check each year.

An annual physical can help your child stay healthy and ensure a successful year.

With over 25 locations throughout Central Florida, physicians at Orlando Health Physician Associates are available close to your home. During a routine physical, one of our board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatricians will check all of your child’s body systems to ensure there are no apparent problems. This allows you to catch any health concerns early on and get your child the best intervention resources available.

A routine physical involves checking your child’s records to ensure he or she is up to date with all required immunizations. This may also be required by your child’s school to admit them in the fall.

How to Get the Most from a Back-to-School Physical

The best way to maximize the effectiveness of the school physical is to go in with a plan. Do you have specific concerns about your child’s health or development? Do you feel like he or she may be falling behind in some way? Keep in mind that apparent cognitive or behavioral problems, such as being distracted or disruptive in class, can sometimes have physical origins like poor eyesight. Your doctor will perform a full assessment and recommend additional appointments if needed. Be sure to ask your clinician any questions you have about your child’s well-being during the exam.

What to bring to your appointment at Orlando Health Physicians Associates:

  • Your child’s immunization records
  • A list of medications they take regularly, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements
  • Any forms that need completed for sports or extra-curricular activities
  • A list of questions or concerns to discuss with your child’s physician
