The Physician’s Role in a Quality Healthcare System

As I lead Orlando Health’s efforts in the Central Alabama community, one of my goals is making Brookwood Baptist Health the trusted and indispensable partner of top-tier physicians.

Orlando Health embraces the pivotal role physicians play in building a quality healthcare system that delivers the highest-performing patient outcomes and experiences. Achieving that requires understanding the complete relationship, viewing physicians as both partners and customers.  

Partnering with physicians is a core principle for us, and it’s something we have a lot of experience doing. Over the past eight years, Orlando Health has:

• Worked with our cardiologists to build a program that’s now nationally ranked among the Top 50 by U.S. News & World Report for the second consecutive year
• Recruited top-tier endocrinologists to support a program that was just named among the nation’s Top 50 by U.S. News
• Supported the clinical research of a community physician developing a blood test to detect concussion and traumatic brain injury
• Joined forces with 60+ orthopedic experts to open Florida’s first orthopedic specialty hospital last summer
• Aligned with the 200+ physicians of Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health to break ground this summer on a new community hospital in Pasco County, Florida 

Acquiring a regional health system like Brookwood Baptist Health enables us to develop approaches that play to the strengths of our physicians and team members, and address specific needs in the community. It also enables us to continue providing faith-based care in the growing Birmingham region.
