Orlando Health will leverage Epic to enhance patient care and experience

Orlando, FL (December 14, 2018) – Orlando Health will streamline health data and care delivery for patients and clinicians through the adoption of Epic, the most widely-used and comprehensive health records (CHR) system.

Once fully implemented, all hospitals, physician practices and outpatient care centers operating within the Orlando Health network will use the same comprehensive health record to ensure that a patient’s records are integrated into one platform. For each patient Orlando Health serves, this new system means there will be one health record that comprises the patient’s total care journey across all doctors and specialties. 

On Nov 28, David Strong, president and CEO of Orlando Health, signed the contract with Epic, the Wisconsin-based software developer selected to provide the new CHR. Epic is used by a majority of U.S. News and World Report’s top-ranked hospitals and medical schools that are working collaboratively every day to improve patient care, innovate healthcare delivery and achieve financial health.

“There’s a growing need for system efficiency and simplicity in our operations,” Strong said. “The comprehensive health record will not only allow such, but also it will facilitate information sharing that empowers physicians and assists them with providing seamless and timely care.”

All organizations using Epic interoperate, which means that they can easily exchange patient data for greatly improved patient care. Providers will have the ability to coordinate care with clinicians outside of Orlando Health who serve patients and their families, closing care gaps and reducing duplication.

As part of the deployment, Orlando Health will also offer patients access to MyChart. Through MyChart, which is a free online web portal or application that can be downloaded to a mobile device, users can view their health information, schedule appointments, pay bills, and more.

“MyChart puts patients at the center of their care,” says Trevor Berceau, Epic MyChart software developer. “Using MyChart, Orlando Health patients will be able to manage their health information, access care, and connect with their providers while they’re at home or on-the-go.”

Orlando Health’s implementation phase for Epic is expected to begin in March 2019 and last through early 2021 when full deployment will be complete.
