Kathy Black, MSN, RN, NE-BC was appointed the Chief Nursing Officer of Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in the fall of 2012. In this role, she is responsible for executive oversight of nursing services at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital (DPH) and serves as a member of the DPH Executive Team and the Orlando Health Nurse Executive Council.

Ms. Black is a graduate of Valencia Community College Department of Nursing and she received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Nursing from the University of Central Florida. The focus of her graduate education was management and leadership. She is Board Certified as a Nurse Executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

As a 16 year member and the past nursing leader of the Orlando Health Bioethics Committee in 2011, Ms. Black co-chaired the Orlando Health nursing bioethics conference and has presented numerous lectures on bioethics, nursing ethical issues, and moral distress. Additionally, she is the author of the article titled “Sending out a Moral Distress Code” and coauthored the chapter “Ethical and Legal Issues in Critical Care Nursing”, which is found in the 6th edition of Introduction to Critical Care Nursing. 

Ms. Black serves on the Advisory Council for University of Central Florida College of Nursing and is active in her local community.
