What Our Program Offers New Nurses

Graduate Nurse Residency Workdays

Throughout your first year with us, you’ll come together with other new nurses at the Orlando Health Institute for Learning to participate in RN Residency Workdays. During these prescheduled days, you will be provided with additional clinical and professional learning experiences including reflective discussions, and participate in simulated patient-care activities using state-of-the-art human patient simulators in a laboratory setting.
Attendance and participation during these prescheduled days is a requirement of the RN Residency Program. During these learning events, our new nurses have access to the RN Residency Program’s learning consultant to answer questions and provide support as needed. This is also another opportunity to network with other new nurses from across the corporation.

Orlando Health Mentoring Program

As a team member at Orlando Health, the Orlando Health Mentoring Program is available for your participation. Upon completing clinical orientation, you may discuss with your leadership team the opportunity to be paired with a mentor and receive the support and tools needed to further your success as a nurse. Please ask your learning specialist for more information regarding this beneficial opportunity.

Graduation/Completion of the Registered Nurse Residency Program

After completing the RN Residency Program, a celebration of your accomplishments will take place. During the celebration, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences as a new nurse with your leadership and fellow nurses.

The RN Residency Program will provide you with the tools needed to succeed. As part of your professional/educational development, it is expected that you attend all scheduled RN Residency Workday sessions.

Clinical Orientation

During clinical orientation, you will have the opportunity to meet with the RN Residency Program’s learning consultant and receive additional information about the program. At that time, an educational plan will be set up based on the service line you are entering.

Your clinical orientation will be facilitated by an experienced preceptor in your area of clinical specialty; this orientation is generally between 8 to 12 weeks. A preceptor will introduce you to your nursing responsibilities and support.

Human Patient Simulators

Orlando Health offers educational sessions for new nurses to practice clinical situations on patient simulators with the support of a clinical educator. Examples of previous simulator sessions are pre-code, general assessment and clinical decision making.
As a graduate nurse, you can expect to take advantage of a diverse and experienced team with one goal in mind: your success. There are many offerings in our RN Residency Program that will help you develop from a novice to an expert in the field of nursing!
