Bio
Dr. Maria Hicks is a board-certified dermatologist with Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health. She specializes in hair loss, and her expertise includes:
- Telogen effluvium
- Androgenic alopecia
- Frontal fibrosing alopecia
- Lichen planopilaris
- Alopecia areata
Dr. Hicks has been caring for people in the Tampa area since 2011. She strives to empower her patients to take an active role in their health by providing them with the knowledge and tools needed to find solutions to their hair loss and skin conditions.
Dr. Hicks’ Training
Dr. Hicks received her medical training from Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud CES School of Medicine in Medellín, Colombia. She completed a dermatology residency at Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pennsylvania, and a dermatology research fellowship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Dr. Hicks is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and she is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Her professional memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Hair Research Society, Tampa Bay Latin American Medical Society and Colegio Ibero-Latinoamericano de Dermatologia.
Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals, and she has served as the primary investigator or sub-investigator on multiple clinical research studies.
She is certified as a trichologist by the Colegio Ibero-Latinoamericano de Dermatologia.
Outside of work, Dr. Hicks enjoys spending time with family, ballroom dancing and traveling.
She is fluent in English and Spanish.
