Shriti Mehta, MD, FACC, is a board-certified interventional and general cardiologist with the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. She specializes in coronary interventions, peripheral interventions, general cardiology and women's cardiovascular health.
Understanding General Cardiology
Dr. Mehta treats cardiovascular and rheumatologic diseases related to the heart. Some of these conditions include heart attacks, high blood pressure, angina, coronary artery disease and valve disease. Patients are generally referred to Dr. Mehta by their primary care physician. Once a diagnosis has been established, she advises patients about the best treatment options and therapies needed to set them on the path to improved health.
What Is Interventional Cardiology?
As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Mehta treats specific conditions affecting the circulatory system such as blockages in the lower extremities and carotid arteries. Many blockages can be treated using minimally invasive techniques, including angioplasty and stents, while more severe diseases may require bypass surgery.
Cardiovascular Care for Women
Dr. Mehta has a special interest in providing women cardiovascular care. Knowing that one in three women are living with some form of cardiovascular disease motivates her to counsel women about the range of symptoms associated with heart disease in women and the differences in how women respond to treatment. She provides preventive screenings and nutritional counseling to those at risk and the latest treatments and minimally invasive procedures for women with heart disease.
