Sita Swamy is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) with the Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute who has been treating patients in Central Florida since 1998. During that time, she has worked in open heart recovery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and heart failure. Her focus since 2010 has been in heart failure. Her skills include:
- Caring for inpatient and outpatient heart failure patients
- Providing care for patients being treating with extra corporeal membrane oxygen (ECMO) and patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD)
- Providing IV diuresis, IV hydration and electrolyte replacement
- Conducting genetic testing
- Diagnosing and managing patients with cardiac amyloidosis
- Coordinating multi-disciplinary care
Sita also is a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-BC) and a certified heart failure nurse (CHFN). She takes time to listen to her patients and their concerns so she can tailor their treatment to meet their needs.
Sita’s Training
She received an associate degree in nursing from Lake City Community College, now Florida Gateway College. Sita earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a Master of Science in nursing with a family nurse practitioner specialty and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She received her advanced heart failure training at UF Health Shands.
About Sita
Sita is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is a member of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau honor society for nurses. She is a director on the board of The Heart Failure Patient Foundation.
Her research topics include heart failure, cardiac amyloidosis and ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a type of heart attack that involves the total blockage of the artery.
Outside of work, Sita volunteers for competitive musical organizations. She also enjoys reading, attending concerts and spending time with her family.
