Job Summary

The Risk Management Coordinator is responsible for the overall management and implementation of Physician Associates Risk Management programs. In this capacity, he/she provides administrative, technical and collaborative support for Risk Management programs. 

The Risk Management Coordinator oversees compliance for state and federal regulations relative to Risk Management and Quality Improvement. He/She coordinates organizational preparedness for external regulatory reviews and serves as a point of contact for legal inquiries pertinent to Physician Associates. The Risk Management Coordinator oversees the employee health program for Physician Associates, as well as compliance with State and Federal regulations for OSHA and handling of biowaste.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Conducts medical record audits and focused reviews for Risk Management Department with root cause analysis, methodology and corrective action plans and recommendations.
  2. Presents review data in a clear, concise and organized manner for Medical Malpractice Committee presentation.
  3. Assists in the development of corrective action plans in cooperation with Medical Malpractice Committee, Department physicians, and Director of Operations.
  4. Maintains records of quality improvement activities in an organized, confidential manner in accordance with Physician Associates confidentiality policies.
  5. Organizes reviews so as to optimize review time and travel expenditures.
  6. Participates as an effective member of the Medical Malpractice Committee assisting in policy and procedure development relative to quality improvement activities and dissemination of this information to physicians and staff. Provides administrative and technical support for the Medical Malpractice Committee Chairman, including attending meetings, coordination of the agenda and preparation of minutes.
  7. Maintains overall responsibility for organizational preparedness for external reviews, including OSHA.
  8. Provides training and education to physician and staff as needed (including OSHA annual training).
  9. Facilitates all peer review activities.
  10. Provides consultation and technical support for Physician Associates Risk Management standards. Serves as a resource for Department Directors on current external and internal regulations.
  11. Acts as an outside liaison with physicians, hospitals, and referral agencies for investigating incidents and communicating quality improvement data.
  12. Prepares Risk Management reports quarterly to include, but not limited to, chart audits, tracking systems, (Coumadin, referral, diagnostic, DNKA, lab), complaints, with trends, patterns of occurrence, performance improvements and recommended corrective actions plans.
  13. Updates and integrates new policies and procedures as needed.
  14. Develops benchmarking goals with assistance of Risk Management Medical Malpractice Committee. 

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to travel locally as needed.
  2. Ability to see and hear normal conversational tones.
  3. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  4. Ability to read handwritten medical records.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  6. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 

Education/Experience Requirements

  1. State licensed LPN or RN.
  2. Risk Management certification.
  3. Two to five years working experience in quality improvement or risk management.
  4. Demonstrated presentation and organizational skills.
  5. Ability to write policies, procedures, memos and letters.
  6. Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software.
