Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technician is responsible for performing all obstetrical ultrasound examinations as ordered by physicians. The examinations must be performed in accordance with all SDMS (Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) guidelines. The Ultrasound Technician is responsible for distributing all ultrasound reports and maintaining a permanent file for reports and ultrasound examinations. She/he is responsible for the retrieval of all reports related to ultrasound exams.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations as ordered by physicians of obstetrical patients. Communicates all instructions clearly to patients. Tests all patients with kindness, dignity and respect.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of patient records and ultrasound reports. Follows AIUM guidelines when performing all ultrasound examinations.
  3. Follows flow of paperwork when sending examinations and reports out of the department to be over read.
  4. Maintains a daily check on reports returning to Physician Associates to ensure no reports are lost or late.
  5. Works with contracted quality control technologist in maintaining ultrasound equipment.
  6. Maintains cleanliness of ultrasound room and all ultrasound equipment.
  7. Maintains supplies in the department and works with the lead RDMS in ordering for them on a scheduled basis.
  8. When possible, confirms scheduled appointments with patients prior to appointment day.
  9. Maintains registry with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  10. Stays current in obstetrical ultrasound practices and research.
  11. Participates in other assignments or projects within Physician Associates and attends all mandatory meetings. Works effectively as a member of a patient care team and contributes suggestions for improving departmental and organizational operations.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to see.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively.
  3. Ability to hear at a 50% level.
  4. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. from ground level.
  5. Ability to move about the center, stand, stretch, stoop, kneel, hold, touch, push, pull and travel from center to center as needed.

Education/Experience Requirements

  1. 2-4 year degree in Ultrasound Health Sciences.
  2. Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  3. 2 year minimum clinical experience in Obstetrical Ultrasound.

Classification II

Required tasks normally do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment.
