Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute Opens Phase 1 of Downtown Complex

Orlando, FL (March 26, 2023) – The Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is excited to begin welcoming patients to its new, downtown complex on March 27. During the first phase opening of the facility, guests will be able to access imaging, lab and pharmacy services, a 62-exam room clinic, the ambulatory surgery center and rehabilitation space.

Orlando Health leaders and physicians recently celebrated the orthopedic medicine pioneer who provided inspiration for the project. Dr. Eugene Jewett was a Central Florida orthopedic surgeon and inventor, whose dedication to orthopedics saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

“Dr. Jewett was also passionate about innovation, training the surgeons of the future and excellence in patient care. That is a mission we are excited to carry on with the creation of this Center of Excellence,” said Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute Physician President Dr. Michael Jablonski.

The ambulatory surgery center, which includes 12 operating rooms and a nano-suite for minimally invasive sports medicine technology is named in his honor as the Eugene Jewett, MD Surgery Center.

“The Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic institute downtown complex provides a new level of orthopedic care for people in Central Florida and the Southeast,” said Carlos Carrasco, president of the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. “This project combines world class doctors, state of the art technology and thoughtful dedication to safety and patient experience.”

Orlando Health is the first health system in Florida to receive MRI technology that will significantly speed up scans and enhance patient experience. The operating rooms will be virtually connected to provide learning and collaboration opportunities. In the clinic, patients will be able to access walk-in orthopedic care.

The 375,000 sq. ft., seven story facility is located on Orlando Health’s downtown campus and is the latest addition to the vast array of specialty care patients can find on Institute Row.

“With significant population growth in Florida, we know orthopedic care will continue to be in high demand. We want to make sure we are not just meeting those needs but providing a level of care and service that is second to none,” said Orlando Health president and CEO, David Strong.

In phase two of the project, Orlando Health will open Florida’s first orthopedic specialty hospital. The hospital will include 75 inpatient smart rooms that will feature advanced remote technology and digital access to medical and recovery plan information. A research and innovation center on the seventh floor will provide a hands-on learning environment for orthopedic surgery residents. It includes a 10-station cadaver lab, 3D printer and 116-seat auditorium.
