Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center clinical nurse specialist earns national award

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses named Mary Janette Sendin as a 2022 Circle of Excellence award recipient.

Orlando, Fla. (May 15, 2022) --- Mary Janette Sendin, clinical nurse specialist, Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, was recently recognized with the 2022 Circle of Excellence award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). Sendin, MSN, APRN-CNS, CCNS, PCCN, is the only recipient in Florida for this year.

Criteria used to evaluate Circle of Excellence award candidates include relentless promotion of patient-driven excellence; strong communication skills; true collaboration; effective decision-making; meaningful recognition of others; ability to transform thinking, structures and processes; and ability to address challenges and remove barriers to excellent patient care and achieve visible results through leadership.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this award on behalf of my fellow nurses and advanced practice registered nurse – clinical nurse specialists,” said Sendin. “As nurses we play an important role in the path towards a more equitable future in healthcare, where we are valued as leaders and have the education, training, and skills to deliver the care needed for every patient to receive excellent patient and family experiences and achieve optimal health outcomes.”

In her role at Orlando Health ORMC, Sendin is part of the Center for Nursing Research and Advanced Practice Nursing. Her specialty is in cardiology, focusing on atrial fibrillation, interventional and medical Cardiology patient populations. She serves as a resource, mentor, and coach to nurses at bedside, and works collaboratively with multiple disciplines. Sendin is also involved in quality improvement initiatives and research.

“As an advanced practice registered nurse – clinical nurse specialist, I am uniquely qualified to use advanced knowledge, clinical inquiry, innovation, change management and critical thinking to lead clinical practice, help advance the practice of nursing, and serve as an organizational connector, using evidence and collaboration to move projects forward that significantly impact patient and system outcomes,” said Sendin.

“Janette is a valuable asset to the team,” said Alicia Bechtel, MSHA, BSN, RN, CNML, administrator, Patient Care, Cardiovascular Services, Orlando Health ORMC. “Her expertise helps us drive many programs in cardiology including our electrophysiology program and cardiac intervention programs. This award is well deserved.”

Circle of Excellence award recipients will be recognized during the AACN’s National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in Houston, May 16-18, 2022.
