Winnie Palmer Hospital Receives Certification in Perinatal Care
Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies has earned Perinatal Care Certification from The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest accrediting body in healthcare. Perinatal care includes the time shortly before and after delivery. Orlando Health Winnie Palmer is the first facility in Orlando with this designation, and joins a list of more than 30 hospitals in the country.
The certification program recognizes Joint Commission-accredited hospitals for their integrated, coordinated and patient-centered care for mothers and their newborns. Orlando Health Winnie Palmer underwent a rigorous onsite review, during which The Joint Commission completed an evaluation of Orlando Health Winnie Palmer's perinatal health care services including:
- Care that starts with prenatal and continues through postpartum care
- Early identification of high-risk pregnancies and births
- Management of mothers' and newborns' risks
- Available patient education and information about perinatal care services
“We are delighted to receive Perinatal Care Certification from The Joint Commission,” said Kelly Nierstedt, president of Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. “As one of the largest delivery hospitals in the nation, this certification shows our commitment to providing the highest level of care to mothers and their babies.”
Established in 2015, Perinatal Care Certification is awarded for a two-year period to Joint Commission-accredited hospitals.
