The ankle-brachial index is one of several diagnostic tests used to screen for blocked or narrowed arteries. Our goal is to diagnose your blood flow problems early to prevent more serious heart issues in the future.

We perform this test with an ordinary blood pressure cuff and ultrasound device. We measure and compare your blood pressure in each arm and ankle, then determine your ankle-brachial index number. Blood pressure should be about the same, and a lower number in the ankles may indicate blocked or narrowed arteries. We may suggest other tests to identify specific blockages.
