Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injury
How our sports medicine and orthopedic doctors treat your injured knee depends on how badly you’ve injured your ligament. We may recommend crutches, physical therapy or surgery. Our goal is to stabilize your knee, relieve your pain and return you to your daily activities.
If you’ve torn your ACL, it won’t heal without surgery. Our orthopedic surgeons may reconstruct your ACL using tissue from another part of your body or from a cadaver. After surgery, our physical therapists help you regain strength in your leg. If you are elderly or inactive, we may recommend treating your tear with physical therapy rather than surgery to help you regain stability in your knee.
