Your cyst may go away without any treatment. If it’s causing you pain or discomfort, or keeps coming back, our sports medicine doctors will perform a thorough exam to see if a cartilage tear or arthritis is causing your symptoms, and then develop a treatment plan.

We may begin your treatment with rest, ice, physical therapy and anti-inflammatory medicine. If your cyst doesn’t go away, we may drain the fluid with a needle and give you a corticosteroid shot to reduce your swelling. If your cyst continues to refill and is severely affecting your joint movement, we may consider arthroscopic surgery to remove the swollen tissue.
