The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center (BIRC) specializes in the treatment of individuals who have experienced a brain injury or other neurological insult. BIRC, a part of the Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation, has been providing exceptional rehabilitative care to the Central Florida area since 1980. This CARF-accredited center prides itself on providing services through a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team approach. The BIRC inpatient rehabilitation unit is located in the North Bed Tower of ORMC and the outpatient program is at our 100 West Gore Street location.
BIRC’s experienced team is qualified to treat:
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Brain Tumors
- Stroke Rehabilitation
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Neurological Disorders
A tremendous portion of the treatment provided is extensive rehabilitation education and training for patients and their families or caregivers. Since recovery is often a long-term process, education and training for effective rehabilitation strategies is essential for success. Regardless of the type of injury, the team is committed to achieving the optimal level of functional independence for every person they serve.
The team consists of a medical director, certified rehabilitation registered nurses, licensed clinical social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, speech language pathologists, neuropsychologists and other specialist consultants as needed. Each individual patient and his or her family are active members of the team and are key players in setting rehabilitation goals.
