Request an Appointment with an Orlando Health Physician
Our board-certified geriatric doctors have specific expertise in providing medical care for older patients, who often have multiple chronic conditions or complex needs
Due to improvements in medical care, the number of people in the United States who are over the age of 65 is larger than ever before, and growing. Geriatric care physicians are primary care doctors who are specially trained in the aging process.
At Orlando Health, our geriatric physicians have extensive experience caring for the special health problems of the elderly, including end-of-life care. We seek to balance quality-of-life issues with the risks of any possible tests or treatments.
Some valuable screenings and tests for our older patients include:
- Memory disorders – Evaluation will include a physical exam and tests of memory, attention and other cognitive functions.
- Driving ability – Examination will concentrate on the areas most closely related to driving safety — mobility and functional status, visual attention, and cognitive level.
- Hearing loss – May include asking a patient about any hearing difficulties, an otoscopic examination (visual exam of the eardrum and the passage of the outer ear) and the whispered voice test.
- Balance problems – We include an assessment of fall risk in the patient history and physical examination of all our geriatric patients.
We take an interdisciplinary approach in caring for older adults with serious health concerns, such as:
- Memory loss
- Medication side effects
