Papillary renal cell carcinoma has two types: type 1 and type 2, which are distinguished by mutations of different genes.
Our team of oncologists and surgeons will consider which type you have, its stage and progression, and your overall health. Our goal is to spare as much of your kidneys as possible during treatment, which likely will include surgery to remove the cancer. Depending on your case, we may use traditional or minimally invasive surgery. When this isn’t possible, we may destroy the tumors by freezing or heating them. In rare cases, we may recommend a kidney transplant.
