Hip impingement occurs when the ball and socket of your hip joint fit too tightly. Though there is no way to prevent hip impingement, our orthopedists will diagnose the extent of your condition to determine if you need surgery. We also will evaluate whether we can manage your pain and prevent further damage to your hip with physical therapy and medication.

To diagnose your condition, we may perform a simple test that involves moving your knee to your chest and using X-rays and MRI or CT scans. We may recommend rest, medication, physical therapy or arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage, tears and other damage. Total hip replacement may be the best treatment option in extreme cases.
