Tears in the labrum, which is the soft tissue that surrounds the hip socket, are not always easily detected and often occur with other injuries, including hip impingement or compression of the connective tissue. You may or may not experience pain. However, you may need surgery, especially if you intend to return to sports competition.
We will perform a physical exam, including range of motion tests, and may use X-rays and MRI imaging to determine the severity of your labral tears. We may recommend a hip anesthesia injection to verify our diagnosis. Surgical repair using minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques may be the best treatment option if your injury does not heal after medication, rest and physiotherapy.
