Surgery is rarely needed for this common sports injury. Our team of orthopedic and sports medicine doctors will assess the extent of damage to your ligament and develop a treatment plan that may include rest, ice, compression, elevation and physical therapy.
Our doctors will thoroughly examine your knee to make sure you haven’t also injured any other ligaments. We may put you on crutches and prescribe anti-inflammatory medicine and physical therapy to help regain knee and leg strength. In the event that you need surgery, our doctors may make a small incision on the inside of your knee to re-attach your ligament to the bone or to sew torn ends back together.
