The increase of cancer incidence and survival rates has created a new awareness of the need for rehabilitation services. Our Oncology Rehabilitation programs provide comprehensive treatment and education for patients who are currently undergoing cancer treatment or have developed complications following their cancer treatment. This specialized rehabilitation program was developed to facilitate and maximize healing. We strive to restore our patients back to independence so they can actively participate in their normal daily activities.
Our team of inpatient and outpatient occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech and language pathologists work closely with a patient’s oncology medical team to provide the highest quality of care possible.
Our Oncology/Lymphedema Rehabilitation services include:
- Cancer related musculoskeletal dysfunction
- Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer Program (VLNT)
Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer (VLNT)
At Orlando Health we utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to treating patients before and after Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer (VLNT) surgery. The collaboration between the therapists, surgeons and nurse practitioners ensures that we deliver quality treatments across the continuum of care. Prior to surgery, our Certified Lymphedema Therapists teach patients how to perform manual lymphatic drainage, multilayer compression bandaging, lymphedema exercises and proper skin care. Patients who see these therapists are taught important guidelines to perform before and after surgery in order to have the best outcome possible following their surgery.
