Posterior tibial tendinopathy is one of the most common sources of foot and ankle pain. Overuse of your ankle and shins from participation in high-impact sports or strenuous activity often causes posterior tibial tendinopathy. This condition may require more involved treatment if your symptoms do not improve with home-based care.


Our orthopedists may recommend applying ice packs, taking pain and anti-inflammatory medications and using arch supports or shock-absorbing insoles to help your condition. We also may recommend stretches and exercises to strengthen your muscles and tendons. You may be able to prevent a recurrence by gradually resuming regular activity or by switching to low-impact exercises.
