Shoulder separation occurs when the ligaments that connect your collarbone and shoulder blade are injured. Our sports medicine team is skilled at treating this common injury. We will diagnose the extent of damage to your shoulder ligaments and create the best treatment and rehabilitation plan for stabilizing your shoulder, managing your pain and preventing further injury.

Your treatment will depend on the severity of your ligament damage. We may prescribe anti-inflammatory medicine for your pain, ice to reduce the swelling and a sling or brace to stabilize your shoulder while you heal. Physical therapy may include ultrasound or massages and exercises to increase your range of motion. If you have significant damage, we may recommend minimally invasive surgery.
