Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which is located throughout the head and is responsible for carrying sensation from your face to your brain. Our goal will be to reduce or block the pain caused by your trigeminal neuralgia. We will develop a treatment plan based on the severity of your pain, overall health and pain management goals.
We may begin by treating you with anti-seizure medicine to suppress the excessive nerve activity that is generating your pain. If you stop responding to medications or have unpleasant side effects, we may recommend non-surgical, minimally invasive or open surgical procedures to relieve pressure on your nerve. We also may suggest alternative medical therapies such as acupuncture or meditation.
