Orlando Regional Medical Center Receives Atrial Fibrillation Certification

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 20, 2013) - Orlando Regional Medical Center recently received full Atrial Fibrillation Certification status from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). Certification distinguishes hospitals for their excellence in clinical processes for the early assessment, diagnosis and treatment for high quality patient outcomes.
Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) and has become recognized as a health concern that in some cases can lead to stroke and possible death for the nearly three million patients in the United States who live with the condition.
“With an experienced and multidisciplinary team we are able to offer patients the most innovative procedures,” Roland Filart, MD, Atrial Fibrillation medical director, Orlando Heart Center. “Our focus on exemplary care is reflected in our high success rates for ablation procedures, low complication rates, and adherence to best clinical practices.”
Another key component to the ORMC program is education.
“We provide comprehensive atrial fibrillation training for doctors, nurses and other health care team members,” said Janette Sendin, MSN, CNS, CCNS, PCCN, clinical nurse specialist, Cardiology Service Line. “In addition to caring for patients at our hospital, we provide community outreach and community lectures to increase awareness in recognizing signs and symptoms of AF, and the importance of seeking timely treatment by immediately calling 911.”
SCPC’s goal is to help facilities evaluate and manage the atrial fibrillation patient more effectively, improve patient outcomes, and educate patients and healthcare providers to more efficiently care for this disease.
ORMC has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and undergoing a comprehensive review by an accreditation review specialist from the SCPC. The hospital’s protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient evaluation and management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment and to risk stratify patients to decrease their length of stay in the emergency department and the hospital. The Atrial Fibrillation Program at ORMC is part of the multidisciplinary team at the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute and the new approach to patient care that provides greater accessibility to clinical experts, and a more personalized, coordinated, and efficient cardiac care experience. The current certification will remain active until April 10, 2016.
