VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care and a long-time supporter of Orlando Health, has pledged a philanthropic gift of $250,000 in support of a Family Retreat Room at Orlando Regional Medical Center Tower. The Family Retreat Room, named after VITAS, is located in the second floor of the Intensive Care Unit at the ORMC Tower.

“We are thrilled to support Orlando Health with the VITAS Family Retreat Room at Orlando Regional Medical Center Tower,” said VITAS Senior Vice President of Operations Patty Husted. “As a former nurse, I can appreciate ORMC’s insightful addition of the family room in the ICU setting which will greatly benefit the families whose loved ones receive intensive care.”

VITAS has worked closely with Orlando Health for years to ensure that hospice patients returning to their homes receive the end-of-life care and support they need. Patients in the ICU are some of the most critical patients that the hospital cares for and those patients’ families experience a lot of stress when they visit their loved ones. VITAS’ pledge for the Family Retreat Room allows those families to receive an extra level of support during a difficult time.

“The Orlando Health Foundation is exceptionally pleased to recognize VITAS for its generous gift in this way,” said Wendy Proctor, Director of Development at Orlando Health Foundation. “Our relationship with VITAS is very important to Orlando Health’s mission of improving the health and quality of life of the individuals and communities we serve.”
