Michael L. Russell, MD, is a board-certified pulmonologist with Orlando Health Medical Group Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. He specializes in in pulmonary and internal medicine with an emphasis on pulmonary disease. He also provides critical care to patients with trauma injuries and acute or life-threatening pulmonary conditions.

Additionally, Dr. Russell serves as the physician champion for Orlando Health's Epic Project, a multi-year endeavor driving the development and implementation of technology to create a centralized, comprehensive patient record and more.

Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine

He is highly trained to care for patients with a need for pulmonary care and sleep medicine. With the goal of helping patients achieve a better quality of life and health, Dr. Russell's focus is on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting respiratory system, which is comprised of the lungs and other organs that enable breathing.

Common pulmonary diseases include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, lung cancer and more. Those in need of a sleep medicine specialist typically are experiencing obstructive sleep apnea.

Dr. Russell's Training

Dr. Russell earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina, School of Medicine in Chapel Hill followed by a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He is certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

About Dr. Russell

After finishing his fellowship, Dr. Russell became an associate professor of medicine at Duke, the first of many positions he would hold for the next 22 years. During his final year at Duke, he was honored as Professor Emeritus.

He then joined the team at Orlando Health as a practicing physician and chief clinical informatics officer before joining the Epic Project's executive steering committee.
