Clubfoot is a foot defect present in children at birth where the foot points downward and twists inward. This unnatural foot contortion is caused by tendons on the back and inside of the feet being shorter than normal. If not treated, this can cause serious discomfort and cause poor walking function because it does not fix itself over time. About 1 in 1000 babies is born with one or two feet affected with clubfoot. The deformity has nothing to do with how the baby was positioned in the womb, in fact it is hereditary. Level One Orthopedics specializes in the Ponseti Method of treating clubfoot.
