Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital’s cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab) provides accurate imaging of narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, evaluation of the heart’s pumping chambers and valves, and more. With the ability to treat patients with cardiac and vascular problems by utilizing intravascular ultrasound and thrombolysis and the latest in balloon, wire and stent technology, the program offers minimally invasive technology available to help patients recover faster.

Orlando Health – Health Central’s interventional cath lab patients will also rest well in the CardioVascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), a unit designed to care for interventional recovery and high-risk vascular and cardiac patients.

Patients experiencing ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a heart attack with a blocked coronary artery, will receive the fastest, most advanced care possible with the new Code STEMI program at Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital. This severe heart attack is caused by a prolonged period of blocked blood supply that carries a substantial risk of death and disability if not for a quick response by many individuals.

With the implementation of the Code STEMI program, interventional cardiologists now provide around-the-clock care and begin the appropriate process when a heart attack patient is en route to the hospital.
