Neurolysis

Overview

Neurolysis is a procedure used to target and kill a specific nerve. This can be accomplished using several techniques, all guided by precision imaging. The goal is to eliminate the source of your chronic pain.

Who Benefits?

This procedure is done for a wide variety of patients, including those who have chronic neck, back and joint pain. It also is used for some cancer patients.

Are There Different Approaches to This Treatment?

There are several techniques that can be used to kill the targeted nerve. Most commonly it is done through extreme temperature change. It can be burned through radiofrequency ablation or frozen through cryoablation. A third option is to inject special medications into the nerve location.

Recovery Expectations

This minimally invasive procedure is done in an outpatient setting. In most instances, you will return home the same day. You can expect some soreness for a few days, and it may take several weeks for the full measure of pain relief to be felt. Repeat treatments may be required within six to 18 months.
