Weight Loss and Bariatrics

At Orlando Health Rockledge Hospital, we understand the challenges that come with living with obesity, impacting every aspect of your physical and mental health and well-being. We offer a comprehensive program to help you reach and maintain your weight-loss goals, particularly when more traditional efforts have not produced the desired results. Our compassionate team works with you to build a customized treatment plan based on your individual weight-loss goals and your body’s ability to meet those goals.

In some cases, medical weight loss management may be the preferred treatment method. The institute team works together with each patient to find what role obesity medication may have in a patient’s individualized care plan, whether on its own or in combination with surgery as a pre- or post-surgical treatment.

If you are a candidate for bariatric surgery and surgery is decided on as the best course of action, your surgeon will develop a plan to determine what weight-loss surgery that is right for you, taking into account your medical history, health conditions and expectations. Proven weight-loss surgeries we offer include:

Lap-Band® Adjustable Gastric Banding – This procedure places a device around the upper part of the stomach to help you feel full sooner and longer. The diameter of the band can be changed by your surgeon to meet weight loss needs, and the procedure is reversible. A less invasive option, this technique offers less trauma and pain, and a faster recovery than traditional weight loss surgery methods.

Gastric Bypass – This weight loss surgery reduces the size of your stomach to a small pouch — about the size of an egg — by stapling off a section of it. This limits the amount of food you can consume at a time. This will cut down on the number of calories you consume at a given meal, which in turn will help with weight loss.

Sleeve Gastrectomy – This procedure generates weight loss solely through reducing the stomach volume and decreasing the appetite. Through small incisions, each between one and two inches long, approximately 70% of the stomach is removed. This new stomach has a total capacity of just 3-5 ounces, which means patients feel full or satisfied after eating only 2-4 ounces of food.
